SAP Fieldglass - Homepage Redesign

I led the evolution of Webex Control Hub’s AI Assistant from a simple help bot into a full conversational layer—adding threaded chats, Smart Search, and AI-powered report analysis—which boosted monthly usage by 120%, proving that thoughtful system-level design can directly drive efficiency and adoption.

SAP Fieldglass is an enterprise SaaS platform that helps large organizations manage their external workforce and vendor relationships at scale.

However, despite its robust backend and business value, the homepage had become a source of confusion rather than clarity. There have been persistent user feedback that the homepage is hard to navigate and completely unintuitive.

In early 2024, I was tasked with redesigning this critical touchpoint.

The Problem

The Problem

Despite being a substantial user group, accounting for nearly 30% of the entire buyer segment, hiring managers have historically faced challenges with SAP Fieldglass's interface. The core issue lies in the system's navigational complexity and inefficacy in presenting relevant worker-related information.

How could we make SAP Fieldglass more intuitive and efficient for hiring managers when managing external workers?

Proposed a New Design Direction

Originally, the Leadership wanted to focus on Global Search and Worker Details page. However, the research shows we users don’t like the global search because the bad performance. And it will require a serious backend effort to improve the search result.

After regroup with the product manager and the developer, I proposed this new direction to the leadership, rethinking dashboard experience to solve the problem of navigation and efficiency. I was able to turn the ambiguity of the project to a more actionable and direction with more potential.

Actionable Insights

With the new insights section, hiring managers can get worker's key metrics without the trouble of creating or running a report.

What I Learned

Effective collaboration between UX and Development teams is crucial for successful project outcomes. Often, these teams may operate in silos, but maintaining open communication and regularly validating work across teams is essential. UX teams bring a deep understanding of user and business needs, while Development teams have a clear grasp of technical possibilities and constraints.

By fostering mutual understanding and ongoing dialogue, teams can collaboratively create solutions that not only meet user and business requirements but are also technically feasible and innovative. This integrated approach leads to more robust, user-centered, and effective product designs.
